Recovery Time Will Vary – Partial to Complete Hysterectomy

If you are considering either a partial or complete hysterectomy, then you want to get as much information as possible. Something every woman has to consider is recovery time. There is a healing time that will have to be endured, and here is a little about what that period will encompass.

Hysterectomy recovery will take some time and TLC, but it usually isn’t as bad as what patients who had one several years ago had to go through. Medical practices have improved, and the recovery usually involves minimal problems.

The recovery time varies from woman to woman, and from procedure to procedure. An abdominal hysterectomy is a lot like a c-section. After c-sections, women find that they are in some pain and cannot move about as usual.

Following a partial or complete hysterectomy, you are likely to need pain medication for the first two days, and for as long as two weeks after the procedure. You also might have to endure a couple of nights in a hospital before being allowed to return home to recover.

In general, laparoscopic hysterectomies (LSH) are not as painful, and the recovery is not as difficult as an abdominal hysterectomy. Women who have the laparoscopic supra-cervical hysterectomy discover a relatively easy recovery time and often return to work within five days.

In a nut shell, women who receive the LSH will have an easier time recovering than women who receive the abdominal hysterectomy, which is a very invasive surgery. Again, this all depends on the surgery, and if any complications arise.

It is important to remember that you can make the recovery process much easier. Drink lots of fluids and start moving around as much as possible as soon as possible. Plan for a speedy recovery, and try to get on your feet soon after surgery.

You will feel better about returning to normal activities once you realize you can perform these everyday activities without the problems you probably experienced before surgery; and hopefully you will find that the benefits of the procedure far outweigh the drawbacks. It is always best to learn as much as you can all about hysterectomy before making your decision.

The recovery time takes anywhere from a few days to three weeks. It is up to you to determine the right time. I would think you should wait at least three months before doing exercises that require a lot of intensity. You should be able start exercising and simple body movement after two weeks or so. It’s best to talk to your doctor to get specific answers regarding your condition.
