After a Hysterectomy
Many women going through or thinking about to go through a hysterectomy ask a lot of questions. One common question that seems to come up more often is “does having a hysterectomy affect my sexuality?” There are also other concerns about this, such as may I become depressed, will I gain weight and how will gynecological visits change?
As far as sex drive goes women most often experience an increase in sex drive and pleasure after the difficulties of pre and post operational pain has ceased.
The most commonly experienced problem is urinary tract infections, which are uncomfortable but easily treated.
Most women fear that they may become depressed after such significant change in their anatomy occurs but research does not indicate any increase in depression post operation. Keep a positive attitude and start an exercise routine once your doctor clears you.
Exercise is essential to all healthy lifestyles and if you find that you are gaining a little weight after a hysterectomy becoming active may be what you need to lose a few pounds and ward off those depressive thoughts.
After a hysterectomy a gynecologist visit may be different but all the normal procedures are necessary. A pap smear is essential due to the increase likelihood of vaginal cancer and routine examinations are needed for up to five years prior to removal.
So, after a hysterectomy women should make an effort to stay active and positive and going to a doctor with any concerns they may have.
As long as you’ve made the effort to do your due diligence and thorough research on this subject, you should do well after the surgery. The most important thing to remember after the surgery is to have plenty of rest and to delay heavy lifting until your body is ready for it.
