Abnormal Bleeding Does Not Necessarily Mean Cervical Cancer and Radical Hysterectomy
Abnormal bleeding does not necessarily mean cervical cancer and radical hysterectomy. Cervical cancer may lead to the need for a radical hysterectomy. However, the symptoms you’re experiencing may stem from another cause.
Excessive vaginal discharge in addition to your regular menstrual cycle could be quite troublesome if proper care is not taken. This bleeding occurs from the vagina during menstrual periods but is heavier than normal discharge.
Abnormal bleeding of the vagina is caused by factors such as taking contraceptive pills, which may cause bleeding during normal periods, hormonal problems produced by thyroid, pituitary glands, and ovaries. Sexually transmitted diseases can cause infections of the vagina, uterus, cervix, ovaries and fallopian tubes, and lead to abnormal discharge and bleeding. A miscarriage can also cause these symptoms.
Short stints of heavy bleeding between your normal periods might be caused by tumors, fibroids or growth of abnormal tissue on the cervix. However, regular prolonged heavy vaginal bleeding needs attention. You should get a proper checkup if this occurs because it might indicate growths in the uterine lining. These growths are not necessarily cancerous, but some are. A radical hysterectomy may be an option if cancer is present, but the earlier the growths are found the more options available and the greater chance of recovery.
Sometimes bleeding is caused by injury to the vagina or reproductive tract during surgery, sex or when a tampon is inserted into the vagina. Bleeding disorders that affect the whole body such as leukemia can also cause abnormal vagina bleeding. If fever, abdominal pain, mucus and vaginal bleeding persist then an infection could be present.
Vaginal discharge usually results from abnormal passages between organs due to injuries caused during childbirth, accidents or surgery. Vaginal discharge usually occurs because of infection causing itching, burning and painful urination. It is not necessary that all infections are sexually transmitted diseases and might be due to other causes like inflammation of the vagina due to hole in the vagina, pelvic inflammatory diseases, genital herpes, uterus infection and lack of the hormone estrogen.
